Draft Itinerary

Day 01: Set off to Maw Chaung, on the western edge of the Mt. Victoria National Park. Once we get in to the Chin country weather gradually become cool and pleasant. It’s a great escape of the heat and dust of the plain during summer however it could be rather cold during winter.

Day 02:Trek through the wild part of Chin Hills, walk along the small path under the shade of large trees enjoying pristine forests fill with numerous birds and small mammals. Trail goes mostly down to Khoke village, located slightly outside of the National Park.

Day 03:Trail goes along the valley across many burial stone slabs and sacrificial posts. Sai Nan, beautifully parched high on the shoulder of the Mountain range.

Day 04:Trek to the valley, trail then goes up all the way till you get to the upper ridge of the mountain fill with healthy forests covers with wild flowers and some wild animals and bird species.

Day 05:Follow along the hunting trail, often goes ups and downs Aukviton.  Far in a distance you will spot Kanpetlet, calmly parched on the edge of the mountain range.

Day 06:Trek to final destination to Kanpetlet, stay on small dirt road fill with rich vegetation. Enjoy picnic lunch, swim in the crystal clear cold water of Saw creek. Later welcome by tribal community, enjoy traditional Khaung (traditional beer).

Day 07:Explore part of Kanpetlet, observe Chin tribal women wearing different facial tattoo patterns. Later we set off for Saw and then to Bagan to end this unique experience.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01 : Bagan – Saw – Laungshe – Maw Chaung

Meet and greet at Bagan and we travel by 4WD to Maw Chaung, via Saw on the western edge of the Mt. Victoria National Park. Once we passed Masadui village road goes up and we found ourselves on the ridge with 1200m in elevation. (Once we get in to the Chin country weather gradually become cool and pleasant. It’s a great escape of the heat and dust of the plain during summer however it could be rather cold during winter especially between December and February)

Day 02 : Maw Chaung –Khoke (Elevation: min: 1384m – max 2067m)

Breakfast and we drive to the trek head and from where we start trek in the wild part of Chin Hills. First we cross a plain but right after we get in to the buffer zone of the National Park. We walk along the small path under the shade of large trees enjoying pristine forests fill with numerous birds and small mammals. On our left a steady flow on Mone Chaung river with its valley having back drop of Mt. Mahura range. Behind these mountains lies Palawat township of Chin and beyond would be Rakhine highlands.

Once we reach a road fork to Khoke village then our trek goes right through the National Park amongst the rich forests fill with wild orchids and birds. Trail goes mostly down and we reach Khoke village in the late afternoon. Khoke village, located slightly outside of the National Park. We have great time interact with the friendly locals, most of them have never seen foreigner. Dinner and overnight at local home.

Day 03 : Khoke – Salinmintha – Sai Nan (Elevation: min: 784m – max 1725m)

Breakfast and we set up early for our today destination of Sai Nan. Trek goes along the valley and pass old Sai Nan village where we see many burial stone slabs and sacrificial posts. From here trek goes slightly up all the way to Yet Chaung village (used to call Salinmintha). From here trek goes along beautiful ridge Sai Nan. As soon as we left Yet Chaung we found an old village with ancient burial stone slabs. Sai Nan, beautifully parched at 1399 meter at the shoulder of the range. Dinner and overnight at villge home.

Day 04 : Sai Nan – Kyi Kwin (Elevation: min: 1194m – max 1789m)

Breakfast and we set up for our today destination at Kyi Kwin. At first trail goes down through farmland but once we cross creek from where trail goes straight up through a farm land but once we get on to the ridge trail become gentle till we get to another small creek. After the creek trail goes up all the way till we get to the upper ridge of the mountain fill with healthy forests covers with wild flowers.

This is the place one usually spot many wild animals like Civet and many kinds of bird species. This trail was originally built by the British but serving nicely with gentile ups and downs. Today we stay on a short distance on a dirt road but amongst heavy forested land but soon enough we get back to mule trek. Kyi Kwin, located at 1367 meter above sea level on the side of a hill looking wide open view of the mountains. Dinner and overnight at villge home.

Day 05 : Kyi Kwin – Makhontui – Aukviton(Elevation: min: 1100m – max 1515m)

Breakfast and we follow along the hunting trail as usual enjoying the view. First trail goes down all the way to a creek and from here trail goes straight up but once we get to the road head we stay on a smaller trek path leads to Makhon Htui. Here we stay on the dirt road for one hour or so but we found the trail goes back on the mule treks which take us to Aukviton. Today is the first day we have a view of Kanpetlet, calmly parched on the edge of the mountain range. Dinner and overnight at villge home.

Day 06 : Auk Viton –Sor Long (Elevation: min: 741m – max 1460m)

Breakfast and we left for our final destination to Kanpetlet. Most of the day we stay on small dirt road but it left out just enough for good trekking path filling up with vegetation as no vehicle could mobilize on due to land slide and its challenging terrain. Our first leg was up to Saw creek where we enjoy a picnic lunch and had a good rest and swim in the crystal clear and cold water.

From here trail goes up all the way with pretty open view mostly cultivation field and some lesser forests however stay green with lots of singing birds. Here we are welcome by and interact with tribal community. Later we enjoy traditional Chin dinner and Khaung (traditional beer) follow by Chin traditional cultural show. Overnight at So Long Community Lodge.

Day 07 : Kanpetlet – Bagan

Breakfast and we explore part of Kanpetlet, observe Chin tribal women wearing different facial tattoo patterns. Each ethnic group has their own pattern which distinguishes them from one another. Later we set off for Saw and then to Bagan, driving down through Chin Hills along winding roads with green vegetation. Once we approach low land we feel the humidity and we are looking forward to the heat and dust through the main land. Upon arrival at Bagan, we check in at our hotel to end this unique experience.

Deposit and payment:

A deposit of 30% of your trip cost per person is require to secure your booking. The balance will need to be settled 7 day before commence of trek. Bookings made within 7 days must be paid in full at the time of booking.

Validity:

Prices quoted are net basis and valid according to the date specified on the printed tariffs, quotation, invoice etc. Myanmar Hill lodges (Myanmar Highland Eco-adventures) warrants that the prices or rates quoted are correct at the time of issuance but are subject to change in line with market, tax or currency fluctuation.

Cancellations and refunds:

All cancellations must be advised in writing and are accepted from the date the written confirmation is received and applied cancellation as below.
15 days before trip date:  you will lose your deposit
7 days and less before the trip date:  50% of the total cost per person
If reservations are cancelled (or) no-show:  no refunds will be made

Amendments:

If the change is minor we will endeavour to make the change at no further cost to you. If the change requires more work than we impose you an appropriate charge ask you to pay the charge before we action the change. Please note we may not be able to accommodate your request during “high occupation period”. In such case we will not be responsible for any lost or additional costs incurred. Should trip be cancelled after deposit cancellation fee applies.

Grouping:

There is no limitation on the group size on this program, however Myanmar Hill Lodges (Myanmar Highland Eco-adventures) reserves the right to combine in order to form a decent group on same departure.

Un-used service:

No refunds will be considered any unused service after commencement of the tour, trek or expeditions regardless of the reason whatsoever.

Checklist

Baggage:

Your day pack should be a medium volume which can hold your personal belonging such as medication, camera, extra clothes, water etc.

Clothing:

Should be lightweight, dry quickly, and provide insulation even when wet. Lightweight long sleeved shirt is useful as sunscreen while trekking. A good quality raincoat is ideal as it will keep you warm and dry in a variety of situations.  A thick sweater or fleece sweat shirt would be ideal to wear in the evenings, when temperatures decline considerably. A lightweight jacket or windbreaker will also be useful.

Foot ware:

Lightweight hiking boots or good quality running shoes will be ideal for the lowland trek. It is essential your walking boots be comfortable and broken-in.

Personal items:

Such as flashlight or headlamp with spare batteries, water bottle and lighter, a pocketknife, reading and writing material and personal first aid kit would also be essential for your convenience.

Protection from weather:

A pair of sun glass and hat is essential for your protection from sun. You will also need some sun screen to protect against sunburn.

Protection against insect bite:

It’s important to keep insect repellent to keep the insects away.

FAQ

What are the overnight facilities in Kanpetlet?

Proper accommodation does exist in Kanpetlet. Room comes with en-suite private bath with running hot and cold shower. Breakfast will be served at most resorts and hotels.

What are the overnight facilities during the trek?

This program involves local home stay in villages. Overnight facilities are established at the village with basic western toilet. Sleeping facility such as mattress, pillow and blanket will be provided. Night will be spent in candle light and wood fire. Limited amount of hot water will be supplied for face wash in every morning.

What will be the temperature like?

Our season is between November and May, which is winter and best tourist season in Myanmar. Mostly clear skies, warm during the day and cool evenings. Temperature steadily decreases between late December and early February. Average temperature would be between low 10/15 and high 25/30 degree Celsius.

How long is an average trekking in a day?

All our treks are designed at 5 to 7 walking hours per day, except for some of the activities that designed for non-trekkers. Day normally starts at 8 or 9 in the morning follow by breakfast. We try to reach our destination well in time to relax and engage activities like social, cultural interaction.

What will I see on the trek?

Most of our program focuses on cultural and ethnic value thus your trail going across tribal activities, which allow you social interactions with local tribe. Experience the authenticity of life style of unique and colorful Chin tribe.  Beside this there will be plenty of bird life, butterflies and other exotic flora to view and experience.

How fit do I have to be?

This program is graded as “Moderate” thus anyone who leads a moderately healthy lifestyle back home and is reasonably fit will be able to join in.

What about meal?

A hot breakfast usually is served around 7- 8 am, lunch usually is simple, light and serve during mid-day. Dinner will be more extensive featuring pre-dinner snacks and deserts.

What about guides?

We provide English language guide and depending on the group size an assistance local guide. Upon advance request we will be able to arrange other language leader at additional cost.

What about First aid?

All our guides are qualified in wilderness first aid, and carry a basic medical first aid kit.

Is there any age or health limit to participate?

This program is suitable to anyone with normal health and fitness condition. However older clients or clients with pre-existing medical conditions may require a doctor’s letter confirming their fitness for the trip. During your visit you are under the direction of your trip leader and he/she has total authority to determine your suitability to participate.
