The Mithun

The Mithun (Bos Frontalis)

Lon Yu Celebration
The Mithun (Bos Frontalis) are distinctive cattle with pale socks and triangular shaped sharp horns and are venerated as sacred by the Chin people and are an important part of their culture, rituals and traditional life. They are often sacrificed as part of local festivals, religious rites or marriages and then their skulls will be exhibited on the fronts of houses. In villages along the way you may also see elaborate carved wooden sacrificial posts which are evidence of this complex ritual relationship which the local people have with the Mithun.
